The bosses of Earthgift Shrine are the guardians of the Dark World in Final Fantasy 3. You may recognize a few of them even if you did not play that game, though.

One note first: On the way down the shrine, there are 13 forced exp fights on a map called Dark Woods. The best to tackle those is to do 13 Gloom Widows, which will give 140 exp each, leading to my party shown. However, there is two things to mention:

You can only fight ONE boss each visit, meaning I would have to do those fights 4 times as well. Because of that, I save stated on the beginning of the final floor and loaded that state after each battle. Due to this, everything that happens during one boss is practically reset.

Also, this whole video didn't happen: I did another save outside of the dungeon that I loaded after defeating those four bosses, because of the aforementioned EXP gain. This means my party will actually be lower leveled in the next videos.

Anyway, towards the bosses.

First one is Echidna. Nothing too fancy, he has only a very weak attack, but his Death and Quake spells can be disastrous. Good thing there is a few Ribbons around.

Cerberus has only one skill to look out for, his Thunderbolt spell. Pretty much like with a lot of other bosses, try killing him before he can spam it. I decided to use a Megalixir to keep myself up, not last because I reset, but they are very easy to come by (they are awarded in the 15 Puzzle, the Ship Mini Game of this Final Fantasy).

Ahriman is plain deadly. He got a wide variety of spells, which if used may take down the party quickly. You see this happen to me towards the end of the battle, which was as close as it can be. Good thing those guys give no exp anyway, no need to have everyone alive at the end like for story battles.

Last, and this time definitely least, is Two-Headed Dragon. As fun as he might look, he only has a melee attack, and given he has only 50 accuracy, it is plain easy to simply evade it by using the White Robe (ups partys evasion) a few times. After that is done, this becomes a simple enough hack and slash battle.

  • So I take it the 15 puzzle thing is this challenge's way of getting money?

You don't seem to be taking too much damage from physical attacks, I see, in spite of the low levels.

    Ahriman is tough though.

  • Physicals are pretty weird in this game. A normal physical does crap damage, it is the number of hits which make it skyrocket. As for bosses in this video, all of them have rather low accuracy, so with White Robe (Blink on all), EVA can be so pimped it is almost unreal. Wait for stuff like Omega though, that attack is a real killer.

Spells, on the other hand, do more or less fixed damage, only ribbon halving ice fire lightning. Still quite harsh as there is no real way to pimp MDef.

  • Oh, and as for money: there is just so much of it lying around midgame onwards, not to forget chests in the bonus dungeons with over 60000 gil, the 15 puzzle is only needed for it at the very start. However, it has a lot of great items, Megalixirs, Hermes Shoes, lots of Status inducing items too, it still pays off using it to stock up on those.

  • @chancegilliam I chose Monk, Red Mage, White Mage and Black Mage and absolutely hated it for like the first 6 or 7 hours. Damn Monk is so bad at first and every enemy target him. If I was ambushed he'd die before I could od ANYTHING hahaha.

  • 2 warrior, and 2 red mages is fail ><

  • I was so disappointed in how easy this whole game was. D: Origins, Dawn of Souls and the PSP one. I haven't tried the iPhone app one yet, but the NES version is still my favorite. XD

    Nice video though~

  • I love how you named the Warriors of Light after some of the main characters from Final Fantasy Tactics. That's one of my favorite Final Fantasy games.

  • Sweet Vids for FF1. I was just wondering what happens after you beat the Earthgift Shrine. I beat all the bosses, but nothing happened. Is it just a dungeon to prove your characters are awesome, or do you get something out of it, like a key item or something?
