It's hard to make a valid opinion here. The Chinese media is state regulated but have any Westerners here compared various sources to gain a personal judgement? I think a lot of people just believe what they want to believe which is what the media owned by a few large corporations feeds them with. The case is the same in China except the large 'corporation' is the govt which happens to present the view of the Communist party, unsurprisingly.

You are right that China gets things done Very fast when it gets government approval...its one of the benefits to not being democratic. Democracy is extremely bureaucratic and capital-intensive.

Btw HK government handles all of HK affairs and is separate from China's government for these kinds of things. Just to let you know.

Did I not say that every nation goes through a period of rapid industrialization with the result of huge pollution? I live in one of those coastal cities btw...our cars are a LOT smaller than your american cars, not to mention more fuel-efficient.

While you are right that a huge portion of the profit does go to the CCP, there is a rapidly growing middle and upper class as well. You'd be surprised as to how many rich mainland chinese ppl there are. I see them everyday, visiting my city to spend

Peterrathod

You are the only one in here who seems to have his head in reality and truth. . . not in some LSD induced dream.

But what can one expect - one thing that commies are VERY good at is creating propaganda (that is how they brainwash their population) . . . so it doesn't surprise me that there are gullible people who will buy into it.

You are talking shit. 50% population don't have or could not afford to have medical insurance. That puts all these people don't have the basic human right that is the right to be medically insured. Americans have the largest comsumption of oil and gas. The biggest polluter by amount energy comsumption in the world. by far more than any othre countries. Your pics might get free medical care, but I am sure you have to pay heavy premium.

Contrary to what you think - I don't hate Chinese people, I did make friends in China. . . but that does not change the reality.

Chinese people obviously won't admit to reality because of their pride or because of fear of the government whose top members are raking in money off the foreign investments.

So you might ask youself then who do I hate? - It is the dumbass US citizens who hate their own country and think that the socialist system in China is better than what they have in USA.

Loving China does not mean to love the great culture revolution. The era is the past and no Chinese wants to that happen again. China today is not China yesterday. China tomorrow will be better than China today. You need to update your knowledge about China. Stop use what happen 20 and 30 years ago to judge what is going on in China today. US today is not US in the past (may be is going to be worse). Americans love to put others down so they can feel better about themselves.

Like I said before -

I've been to China and did not receive the tourist treatment that other westerners get so I saw the dirt behind the facade.

For now China is doing OK because it still is relatively cheap, has stable government and decent roads but when they become too expensive then all the big corporations will go elsewhere.

As long as China keeps help a few get rich get richer then nice comments and pats on the back will be given by so-called experts - but they don't fool me.

For the successful modernization happening in China, China must have done something good for the Chinese and for the world.

Indeed. Democracy can sometimes be analogous to driving a car in first and reverse gears.
