@maw88ify Apparently, all of M$ contributions were for a Microsoft Hyper-V driver, 20,000 lines of code. Microsoft does not have any contributions in the "kernel as such", only a specific driver that suited them.
M$ developers has since disappeared and the code is at risk from getting removed altogether.
Companies own shares of other companies all the time. SUSE partner ship choice of SUSE.

@lnite2009 Microsoft is the fifth largest corporate contributor to the Linux kernel. making Microsoft one of the top contributors to the kernel. Microsoft also owns shares in ReadHat , and have a partnership between Microsoft and SUSE Linux.
