Like the refrain in Bruce Brown's endless summer.
" Ya shudda been here yesterday "
Brother don't I know it.

God look. There's like nothing on PCH. Amazing time to be there. I first saw Malibu in '58 right before Gidget came out. I saw all the boards leaning against the wall and wondered what the hell it was. I thought they were African shields. The surf was like a lake that day. Surfing in those days was a "roadside curiosity". An excuse to pull over and have a picnic. All that changed in '59 w/ Gidget. No parking places after that....

...like watching life on another planet - before all the crap when sharing a wave was the ideal. The Fall, again.

Great footage! I want to be a time traveler!

Wow! This is great thanks! A historical document. Gliding along on those no fin wood monsters no crowds out in the wide open country that was Malibu.
Can't help but think about 13 year old
Miki de Gato getting his chops down.

Are those John Larronde's old movies?

@j9larronde I'm not sure I got them from Ben Marcus at surfer mag.

Brilliant historical footage !! And ONLY a mal can ride that nice, full, wonderful, small but beautifully-shaped wave ....

@colindominy Hi I'm pleasede that you enjoyed the video. . . . those boards are not mals though, mals were introduced later and were the lightweight shortboards of the day, designed for women. . the boards in the video are much longer and heavier

Yes it appears to be a bit faster than it should be. The footage is from a dvd called 'Most supreme pleasure'
