Uncle Eddie: Acting Theory Put to the Test

Is all acting really reacting? That's what actors say, but could that really be true? I decided to test it. Here one actor acts and the other actor reacts. Which has the greater hold on your attention?

My own answer, based on the result of this test, is the reactor gets the attention, even when the actor is more interesting. There's a lesson for writers here...write scenes that play up reactions.

I find myself completely captivated by your performances when you do things like these, and I don't mean that in a creepy way! Your expressions are hysterical and your movements are so naturally entertaining!

This was a really neat experiment but I had a hard time figuring out which role held my attention better because both were so amusing!

A spit wad didn't actually hit the character, so test is void. There wasn't a true thing to react to. When you work with someone in real life you have to receive information to decide your next coarse of action. Same with that theory.
