@littlepouser2 it was at Haymarket New January 1964 then went to Polmadie in Sept 68, withdrawn 10/71.

The Claytons were mostly based in the Scottish and North Eastern Regions, I'm not sure of the exact allocation history of D8568 but it probably was a Scottish based loco, I do know that upon withdrawl into industrial service with Castle cement first at Hemel Hempstead then later at Clitheroe before it was preserved by the DTG in the early 80's as for being called Gavin? I dunno maybe that was a local nick name for the class when in scotland???

@Piltdownpaul Well yes they were and as a matter of fact, just reasently when D8568 did a test run down the Chinner & Princes Risborough Railway just after they had finished it repaint, (the 2nd engine is fitted has not been connected up yet) on the return trip the Turbo seized on the "Good" engine so its gonna be out of action again for sometime until they can get that problem sorted out :S

D8568 History - New to Haymarket April 1964, Polmadie Sept 1968, Withdrawn October 1971, then stored at Polmadie until December 1971, then to Ardrossen until January 1972, and the back to Polmadie until September 1972, then went to various locations.
Some where sheded D8604 -D8615 at Tinsley & Barrow Hill and D8356 went to Ardsley. Some were sheded at Gateshead, Carlisle, Thornaby, and one went to Shirebrook. Hope that helps.
