Coraline is surrounded by a bizarre cast of characters in her world and "other world" and in today's featurette, day four of Coraline Sneak Peek Week, we'll meet them, and hear who they are from the film's director, Henry Selick, the writer Neil Gaiman, and the cast that plays them.

Coraline, of course, is the protagonist, sprightly, excitable and quick-witted. Her mother is very businesslike and often has no patience for her, while her father is a blundering but fun lug. Coraline's neighbours include Mr. Bobinski, a bizarre Russian man who claims to be starting a "mouse circus" and keeps shoving beets down Coraline's throat, and a new character for the movie: a boy her age named Weiby Lowvat.

In Coraline's copy house are idealized versions of these characters, including Mr. Bobinski who actually HAS a mouse circus, an Other Father that is as smooth as it comes, and a version of Weiby that's a lot less of a gross goof. The Other Mother seems like the best one of all, an ideal parent, lavishing love and attention on Coraline, but in reality, she's the most sinister creature there is.

  • I think Coraline's dad was pretty cool. He's just SUPER busy as an author. :]

  • @TheSnowyice As we all are, or at least should be. :P

  • who plays "The Cat" in this movie?

  • @roccorockssd Keith David, same gentleman that played Goliath on that TV show Gargoyles and Dr. Facilier from "The Princess and the Frog". The man is epic.

  • pause at 2:30 look at coralines face theres lines

  • @princessthedog01 That's because the eyebrows and the mouth are two separate pieces that they put on the puppet's head to do its facial animation. The line gets edited out later with a computer. If you look even CLOSER, you can see that the bottom half juts out a bit more than the top half.

  • I love how laid back Niel Gaiman is about people tweaking his story. "Your going to add a character? Fantastic! Of Course I understand completely!!!"

Result? I adore Wybie. He's a creepy ball of adorable.
