just a few months before she died, Mariska (not knowing she was that sick) recorded a new jazzy version of her worldwide hit Venus. in the video you see some pics I made in august 2006.

Dolf de Vries, de man behind the piano, produced the record and was telling what a lovely day he had with her and her husband Andre. he tells Mariska was proud to be asked for the record between other stars as the three degrees, Billy Paul, Gary Brooker, Johney Logan, and more.

you could say, this was the last recording she made.

  • thanky you for this cool version of venus and photos from mariska. I heard it in tears.

  • thanks very much. i can immage how you listened to it.

  • A fantastic arrangement of Venus! Full of substitute chords. It is amazing to hear how good at jazz Mariska was. Elkie Brooks is another one. She recorded with Humphrey Lyttleton int the 1960s, before fronting the great blues-rock band, Vinegar Joe.

  • mariska had an amazing voice and recorded in the 90's a jazz cd and had her own jazz quintet.

  • This is a great version. Does anyone know where to buy/download this version?

  • there is a cd. if you google Dolf de Vries it will lead you to the cd definately

  • well wonderful, I just learnt today through this video that Mariska died. She had such a unique voice & the most gorgeous eyes..even when I see the recent photos of her. I recall listening to the song venus as a child back in the low 70's. I actually thought it was a guy with a strange tone singing venus....(when I was a child) the pre MTV & you tube days of easy info. ya know....She was so special...

  • I've never heard of this version.

    Beautiful!! Thanks you for sharing.

  • Dude looks like the profesor from Gillagan"s Island

  • @cupido47

Wasn't aware she had passed until I saw these posts. Too bad she didn't do more "jazzy" work; she had a torchy voice reminiscent of Julie London.

  • Very very cool. Thank you for sharing.

  • super!!!

  • thank so much for great clip of wonderful singer

  • @prokip901 I was 17 when I bought this record in 1970, I didn't know she passed away until 6 7 months ago, it feels like part of my past went with her.

  • Impressed!!!

  • What Talent! RIP Beautiful.
