Comrade Bhagat Singh was one of the first martyrs of the communist movement of India. He gave up his life fighting against the brutality of capitalism and British Imperialism. For that "crime", he was hung in 1931 by the British authorities, along with Comrade Raj Guru and Comrade Sukh Dev. Bhagat Singh was only 23 when the rope was tightened around his neck.

In 1929, Bhagat Singh was awarded "transportation for life" for throwing bombs in the Parliament session. Other members of his party, Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), were also arrested and put behind bars. In jail, they launched a historic hunger-strike in order to protest against the discriminatory treatment accorded to the Indian political prisoners as compared to the British ones. The 63 day long strike ended as the British submitted to wishes of the young revolutionaries of India.

This clip is extracted from Raj Kumar Santoshi's movie named "The Legend of Bhagat Singh." It depicts the suffering of Communist prisoners during the hunger-strike. The clip also includes a song that was sung by Bhagat Singh and his comrades to keep their spirits alive in the darkness of dungeons. This song is, and will remain, the anthem of the communist movement of India.

Long Live Bhagat Singh!
