This film clip was analyzed by the Museum of the US Air Force. The B-24 was downed by a direct flak hit at just outboard the left wing root. The B-24 had wing tanks just inboard of the #2 & #3 engines, as well as provisions for carrying a bomb bay tank connecting the two. The Liberator was also notorious for leaking fumes into the bomb bay and the bomb bay doors had to be 'cracked open' in flight to vent those fumes. (read more in vid comment)

@DevSolar Correction the 88's muzzle velocity was greater than the 12.8 gun, by 60m/s. Not a major difference at all in V0.
88mm is the width of the projectile. Its length is much longer, over 60 cm.
Most anti-aircraft projectiles have time fuze, which cause them to explode after a certain amount of time. I've seen a video of a heavy bomber being shot by the 88mm. Its whole left wing broke off
