cont.. I think it's because - we expect Monsters to hurt/eat us, but it's innately disturbing for other humans to do it. And I still remember that awful, awful scene that this is just getting to at the end - of the "fresh" Eloi remains that revealed the horror they were being used as food by the Morlocks - I remember being absolutely terrified that this was somehow a real warning about the future when I was a kid. And it turned out to be disturbingly close to the truth... :-(

I still remember seeing this on TV when I was a kid - these Morlocks and this scene in particular scared the ^%&$# out of me! ANd oddly, even after finally seeing the far superior original Rod Taylor version, and even the mediocre 2002 version with scarier looking Morlocks, it is still this version of the Morlocks and this "taking" scene that scares me the most. I think because they look far closer to the humans they once were (still are?) that it bothers me so bad.
