Steven Chu, future U.S. Secretary of Energy under President Obama, describes the "ultimate" development in energy technology: an "artificial plant" that would be able to generate power in a manner similar to photosynthesis.

-----

A New Energy Program with Steve Chu speaking at the Climate Change and Global Politics Conference hosted by the World Affairs Council of Northern California.

No one nation can effectively reverse the growing problems caused by our changing climate. Coordinated global efforts - between governments, corporations, and individuals - can help us conserve and develop energy resources, as well as ensure the continued growth of emerging and developed nations.

What can political leaders do? What can businesses and investors do? And what can you do? - World Affairs Council of Northern California

Steven Chu is Director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Professor of Physics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of California, Berkeley. Previously, he was at Stanford and Bell Laboratories. His research includes tests of fundamental physics, the development of methods to laser cool and trapatoms, polymer physics, and single moleculebiology. He has become active in the energy problem and is co-chairing an InterAcademy Council (IAC) study Transitioning to Sustainable Energy.

Chu has numerous awards, including the 1997 Nobel Prize in Physics. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Academia Sinica, and a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Korean Academy of Science and Engineering.

  • Yes, he must have no idea what he is talking about. He has a doctorate in physics. He has won the Nobel Prize. He ran the Berkeley National Laboratory for years. Clearly he has no proven himself.

    I'm sure that you, an anonymous youtuber are much more qualified. What accomplishments have you done in your life? Actions speak louder than words, idiot.

  • the guy won the nobel prize in physics

    I'm SURE you're smarter, though.

  • yes, i agree with you! take a look back of what has been damage. It is possible to find the solution. nature is good form of anecdote to the worlds problem.

  • Hahahaa,

  • ambot wla ko kasabot!

    Because unfortunately fuel cells use a lot of platinum, which is frightfully expensive and one reason we’ll pay $50,000 or so for the hydrogen cars automakers say we’ll see in 2015. However, with advances in nano tech material science this is quickly changing.

  • I guess I'm missing the point. We already have Fuel cells that take one element and turn it into heat and electricity. Why do we need hydrocarbons? If we were to utilize the break down of water to it's basic elements hydrogen and oxygen then we have the means to create electricity. This would heat/cool and provide a way to transport people and things.

    You demean the Nobel prize in a pretty ham-handed way... With almost no specificity and punctuated by verbose delusions about its functions and consequences . How is the prize for Graphene, for example, political or manipulative? You draw similarities between zombie consumers and intelligentsia very strangely; what sort of fame-diffusion could ever be beneficial? What grotesque vanity you have invented for people you don't name or describe..

  • He's not only trying to make a vastly more efficient (artificial) biofuel, he's trying to recapture the excess CO2.

    However, being at a million times as energy dense than coal (and a thousand times safer than conventional nuclear), he is really wasting time because he is NOT promoting the development and fastracking of...

    LFTR the liquid fluoride thorium reactor.

    Search Energy Secretary Chu on Thorium Reactors

    China's getting into LFTR too

  • Japan weather wars –

    Noah = NOAA - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

    Japeth = Japan

    Shem = sham/trick/fooling of people

    Ham = radio wave technology/scalar handlers

    They have genocide themselves

  • @tltxhzj

    Obama won the Nobel peace prize.

    I'm SURE I'm less fascist, though.

    pfft

    (Idiot, take note: Being a part of the establishment is the very REASON for corruption, not a protection against it)

  • What do you mean? Are you attempting to imply that the Nobel Prize is anything but a political tag? Obama was nominated for a Nobel Prize before he was ever elected. It has nothing to do with knowledge or qualifications; it is simply for promoting an ideology that is accepted by the Nobel Lori ate. Anything that promotes a World Socialist agenda will fit the bill.
