In the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Fla., technicians attached the lifting
sling to Discovery for rotation and hoisting for mating to its external fuel tank and twin solid rocket
boosters. Discovery is targeted to launch for mission STS-120 on Oct. 23. During its 14-day flight to
the International Space Station, the STS-120 crew of seven astronauts will deliver the Node-2 connecting
module, known as Harmony, to the complex. (NASA TV)
Its a damn shame Obama scrubbed the next moon missions.

Beautiful! The shuttle program has never lived up to its expectations of safety or performance but these vehicles still are absolutely amazing!

Anyone else remember playing with the Lego Space Shuttle kits as kids?

Think of the finesse that the crane operator must have...

I think Orion is the orbiter, Altair is the lander, Ares I is the manned rocket (with orion) and Ares V is the unmanned rocket (with altair)

ares 1 and ares v is the name of the two rockets. The spacecraft is called constellation. Same as saturn v 5 and apollo. Apollo was not the rocket but the spacecraft.

It's actually called Area I and Ares V... the mission is called Constellation. I think.

That's what I was thinking. Although I don't see why we couldn't use both at the same time and only use the shuttle for specific purposes that Constellation could not do.

You guys will like the Constellation just fine when we're beaming back Hi-Def videos from the surface of the Moon.
