Willie Hugh Nelson (born April 30, 1933 in Abbott, Texas) is an American country singer-songwriter, author, poet, actor and activist. He reached his greatest fame during the outlaw country movement of the 1970s, but remains iconic, especially in American popular culture.

Lyrics:
I'm writing a song all about you
A true song as real as my tears
But you've no need to fear it
No one will hear it
'Cause sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year
I'll tell all about how you cheated
I'd like for the whole world to hear
I'd like to get even with you cause you're leavin'
And sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year

It's a good thing that I'm not a star
You don't know how lucky you are
Though my record will say it
No one will play it
Cause sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year

It's a good thing that I'm not a star
You don't know how lucky you are
Though my record will say it
No one will play it
Cause sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year

It's a good thing that I'm not a star
You don't know how lucky you are
Though my record will say it
No one will play it
Cause sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year

Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year

  • @OleWatashi Willie did write this

  • I Don't think Willie wrote this song. Ernest Tubb sings it. I like his version as well.

  • keith whitley done agreat version of this song

  • one sad song....

  • @dbrfreak THATS the greatest reason that covers are great. People put down covers all the time because they're not the same as what they know but your comment hits it on the spot. Willie reached you in an a completely unorthodox way. While it's not a cover, it's the same as some never hearing "Are You Sure" until people heard it in the show Lost or some of the songs in Our Idiot Brother. People find genius in many different ways, you don't have to be a hard core outlaw country fan.

  • Sorry Willie but I heard it, played it and loved it. Sad Songs and Waltzes play every day for somebody somewhere.

  • I leave this wold - with wille on my mind and memory - you are the best.

  • The best version of this song is on Willies "Shotgun Willie" CD. In my opinion.
