there is a live action movie of Space Battleship Yamato. if you haven't seen it, look at my channel.

I'd LOVE to watch this film. looks brilliant. Just don't get this stuff on British TV anymore, full of bloody talent shows and bollocks like that.
-
@dionaea2008 I saw that too! It was Chewie! WTF?!
-
Why is such an epic and expensive space battle accompanied by such silly pop music?
-
Wasn't that Chewbacca I saw in a couple of frames? Freelancing on his way back from filming StarWars no doubt.
-
Glad Toho released the DVD. Tired of washed out bootlegs.

@BrooklynChivalry As a brother New Yorker I totally agree with you! Toho was about to lay off the old special effects crew. They said they could deliver an epic space film under budget. They were right; under budget and ridiculous! A total ripoff of two Classics: Battle in Outter Space and Atragon! They Ripped off a Star Wars' wookie painted it green and made him horny! Sadly;( Battle In outer space) was an inspiration for the space battles in Star Wars; and for ID4.

why is this incredible? People are spoiled by today's technology and take everything for granted. This was a marvel to look at in 1978! Aside from the landmark film Star Wars, there weren't many technological advancements in film to compare. Luigi Cozzi's Starcrash? Corman's Battle Beyond The Stars? They're cheezy in their own way. One of the Turkish rip-offs? Utter rubbish! Believe me, Star Wars was one of a kind. That is why Lucas sued Battlestar Galactica into cancellation.

Unfortunately, as much as I am a fan of all things Toho & Tsuburaya, I must honestly report this was indeed inspired by Star Wars and was made AFTER Lucas' 1977 technological achievement (just as Toei's "Message From Space" with Vic Morrow & Sonny Chiba was) in 1978.

I see where the ships from Final Wars came from. XD
FYI, dumbass, the Japanese film studios had smaller budgets back in the 1970's because of the state of the economy back then. A few companies, like Daiei, went completely under.

I actually saw this on Tv when I was a kid. It isnt half bad. Its almost a live action version of Yamato/Starblazers. And yes, part of its success was due to Star Wars in thelate 1970's. How do you think Battlestar Galactica or Buck Rogers got on the air in the states?
