I have been trying to bring them back, technology is runnning every aspect of the modern civilization, even if the style were to comeback people have gotten so dependent on computers and cellphones that they would be lost in this world, if the dad in the video had actually gotten his kids away from modern technology, the kids probably hated it, so the only answer is either a time device, or simply bringing them back with the exception of modern civilization. Which has sort of happened now xD

And even though the 80s brought a lot of new technology to the scene, in reality in the 80s no-one really cared about the newest gadgets..yeah only in their dreams could they have what we have today, but more important was hanging out with friends, going to clubs/skating rinks, throwing parties, buying the latest fashions (didn't have to be name brand to look cool). The 80s was more simple compared to today, but there was actually more to do for fun, and more freedom in a way.

All it takes is for enough mainstream artists to bring back 80s music, and I mean authentically, along with the fashion and hair, then everyone else will follow, other things like movies/tv shows promotes pop culture...theres been many attempts but it never last for too long, most importantly also society today needs to stop being so focused on non-important technology, the newest phones, computers and tvs, it's one of the main things blocking REAL pop culture.
