  • Wtf, were they doing their mating dances or what?

Seriously, what kind of bullshit was that?

  • WTF???? That's not japanese martial arts at all!!!!!

  • @jackedupjimmy Reasonable point about the size difference, and longswords were significantly longer than katana as well.

Although you should know that samurai armour was not typically made of wood, and leather was not the preferred material. Most samurai seemed to favour iron or steel armour, similar to the knight. There were more gaps in samurai armour, but the protection value would be similar.

  • @Dragerch you are completely correct sir katana is an over rated sword...

  • ok one thing people dont take into account is the average japanese samurai was about 5'2" tall the average euro warrior/night was about 5'10 to 6'0" tall giving him a reach advantage about roughly 10 inches easy and considering the long sword was ment to pierce armor and is a stabbing weapon the katana and the shorter samurai would most likely loose unless the balance of skill was greatly in his favor. also the plate the knight would ware is far better than the wood and leather of the samurai.

  • KAtana can´t block with the edge that heavy sword....

    Katana can´t cut throught mail...

  • Too bad.Level :USA or EU,It is not samurai.By japanese.

  • @timwest27 Actually the armour weight was similar.

15th century full plate armour had an average weight of 57 lbs (Knight & the Blast Furnace).

Samurai o-yoroi had an average weight of 65 lbs (wakashira website).

Samurai Yukinoshita-do weighed around 50-55 lbs (Sengoku era reproductions, htt*p://ww*w.japanese-armor.co*m/japanese-armor.sh*tml - remove stars).

  • @stevecoldsteve you cant cut through metal is all im saying, plus european swords are damn fast when used right, there are more than a few longsword videos on youtube that can show how lightning fast a skilled person can be.

  • @volarion I know. That knights is though. I admit he had some sweet tricks, but the samurai fucked around to much. Iaidojutsu could have cut his head off in .6 seconds.

Yeah, sport fencing is pretty linear. The good fencing is when guys with two-handed swords get wrecked with a few flourishes and a fast fleche. I like that kind of fencing... infact, i'm going to make a badass fencer in my book.
