World Premiere of:
In a Network of Lines that Intersect by Alan Theisen
In a Network of Lines that Enlace by Sarah Zipperer Gaskins
October 11, 2010, Dohnanyi Recital Hall
Florida State University; Tallahassee, FL
In a Network of Lines that Intersect, by Alan Theisen, and In a Network of Lines that Enlace, by Sarah Zipperer Gaskins, were commissioned by and dedicated to the excellent Mana Saxophone Quartet. These two works are companion pieces and were premiered on the same date. The two pieces may be played consecutively or independently, share some core musical material, and have titles drawn from successive chapters of Italo Calvino's novel If on a winter's night a traveler. In this performance, Theisen's Intersect is played first, immediately followed by Gaskins's Intersect.
It must be noted that the titles have nothing to do with Calvino's story and were selected simply for their poetic ring.
