I was stationed there in 1978 when the NEX opened. When they were making the parking lot, the earth mover pulled out a 500 pound un exploded bomb out of the ground like a Carrot. It was traced to WW2 and a drop on the dry dock. It landed in the soft swamp past the drydock never exploding. USS Knox FF 1052 77-79 FCC(SW) Retired. Enjoying the Yoko Videos. I was driving a NEX Taxi that day and heard it on the Radio. Something to do when after work when the Bars were not much fun.
