You know.. a couple of days ago I remembered when I was writing an essay about Jewish woman's portrayal in movies. And I read that during Sabbath it was inappropriate to remind the family about it's problems.
And then this part 'May God make you good mothers and wives/May he sends you husbands who will care for you'. Given the fact that finding men for three daughters IS a Problem for Tevye, don't you have a feeling these words shouldn't be here, even as a wish?

I wish to know words. Please somebody write

@Jamiekennywicked Ruth was a convert to Judaism. Esther saved the Jewish people from the evil Haman who wanted to kill all the Jews of Persia (Iran).

@ReviewCam I feel just the same each time I hear this song. Smth from my roots, from my grandparents in their childhood. I can hear it again and again...

@jamiekennywicked: Ruth and Esther are two heroines of the Bible. Each one has her own book in the Old Testament. Get a Bible and read them for yourselves and then you will know.

I love this song. But, who are Ruth and Esther

This is my favorite song and scene from the movie. While Sunrise/Sunset is beautiful, Sabbath Prayer touches my soul, especially the end where the camera pans through the homes in the village on a dark night.
Candles lit in every home against the darkness. Then the united chorus, "Oh, hear our Sabbath prayer!" at the end.
I get choked up even thinking about it.
TY for posting this!

I heard the entire movie was filmed with a nylon on the lens to get the desired soft effect. Pretty interesting, if it is true.

The only problem was that the end was cut.
I love this.
