Rolly Brown plays Steve Mann

Steve Mann ( www.stevemanngtr.com ) was one of the most influential and remarkable blues guitarists on the scene until his disappearance in the mid '60s. Steve re-emerged in Berkeley CA in 2003, and his website features the CD "Alive and Pickin'", showcasing some of Steve's finest performances, including some rehearsal tapes with Janis Joplin. He passed away in Sept. '09, but Bella Roma Music has now re-issued most of the recorded archives of his brilliant early playing.

ah, I've been listening to this one on Steve's cd since I was a little one :) I'm having a really bad case of missing him. Like...playing his album every single day, over and over. I really need to learn this stuff. neeeeed to learn

Did you know Steve? He was a special guy. More of his music has been released on disc recently.

I grew up listening to his stuff, seeing him play at local jams and whatnot... But his music really touched me, I think more than any other musician around :) I should look into the new album then...try to pick some licks up from that. You play this stuff very well. It's hard to do!

It has not come without great effort. I spent two weeks hanging out with Steve in Berkeley; in '06, and again in '08. I'd been listening to tapes and old recordings of him since 1973. I loved the guy, and appreciated getting to watch him play, but I did most of the learning at home by using slow-down software.

BTW, I just checked out your MySpace page; very nice stuff. I particularly liked the "Pop-Up Book" video.
