The Ulm Cathedral (Ulmer Münster) is the tallest church in the world. Its steeple measures 161.53 m (530 ft) and contains 768 steps. This church is not a cathedral but a Lutheran church; there has never been a bishop.
In 1377 the foundation stone was laid. The master builder was Ulrich Ensingen, who also was one of the architects of the Strasbourg Cathedral. It was his plan to make the western church tower the tallest spire of the world, which it is to the current day.
The construction of the building took a very long time. In 1890 the building finally was completed.
It is an example of gothic architecture.

  • I'd been to this cathedral in December 1991. At that time, this cathedral underwent reconstruction or renovation. It was also wet and slippery so with two toddlers with me, I had no chance climbing up. Ulm is beautiful city in the south! Very impressive shots here. Memory revisited through this post. Thanks a lot.

  • Ulm Minster is one of my favorite churches in Germany since it is a Lutheran church,I love you Ulm Munster,,,du bist sehr hoch !!!!

  • @Hamstercheck Wiley closed down around 1992 right before I left (1975-1993)

  • My dad comes from germany and he lived not far away from Ulm in Bayern. So my family used to be there plenty of times. We saw several concerts there, Boney M had a concert located not far away from Ulmer Münster..

  • I was there a year ago, I have videos on my channel, I cant wait to move back to Germany and get the hell out of this crap excuse of a country (USA)

  • I was stationed in Ulm from 1987-1991. I almost considered it home for the length of time i was there. I took my dad to the top of the steeple. I don't remember all the fences etc being there when we went to the top. I hope to go back with my wife and see it again. Ulm and Bavaria are beautiful parts of Germany.

  • I was there in 1980, climbed to the top and the bells started ringing right when i got to the bell room ,which by the way is NOT all the way at the top.
