I have no doubts of the effectiveness of these techniques. But I have yet to see a full speed demonstration.

@Empha84 ...so aikido indeed can help you in many ways if you are attacked on the streets now, but the real purpose of it was meant for the point in time where the predecessor art (aikijujutsu) was developed.

@Empha84 Yes. I think everything depends on the teacher. However, you always have to look at the context where the art belongs. Each traditional martial art was developed in a certain point in time, where the cultural setting, the attacks, the weapons, everything was completely different from the modern world. Aikido is the art of the samurai and the samurais fought in a weapons setting (sword, jo , tanto). So all of aikido techniques where developed to defend against those weapons.

@cjrllanosnj Or look at people who train traditionally but use it in a modern setting. They are out there look up Shifu Yan Lei he is a real shoaling monk who left and teaches modern forms of his art. He is real and effective.
