@carronem They didn't miss out on the bronze because of holds or side-by-side skating, they lost out because deals were made between the French and the Russians to boost the French ice dancers Annisina and Peizerat over them in return for the French pushing the Russian pairs teams ahead.
At the time, I really thought they deserved the bronze but looking back I can see why they missed out. They don't have much in the way of difficult, close holds, they're skating side by side for much of the program and too much dancing in one spot. They made a big mistake choosing Riverdance. As much as I enjoy it, it's just not suited for skating.
From a hockey player to two incredible figure skaters: Wow. I think I get it now...I was at Battle of the Blades for the last two shows (live) and have since become an adorer of this sport. These skaters are so skilled, graceful, full of endurance and passion...I'm so inspired to keep going in hockey thanks to you two (esp. Shae haha) Oh and thanks to my dear friend Caitie for sharing this link on my wall!~
@sidereally True! And to say a Canadian couple should not do Riverdance is like saying the Americans should not do Bollywood... how boring if no one stepped out of the box and did something so different for a change!
I love programs like this one. Shae-Lynn and Victor were so much fun to watch!
@anteangabeo i don't think you realize how hard it is to translate a vertical dance like irish dancing onto ice, which has long, horizontal movements. it's not like waltz or tango that moves parallel to ice skating.

The riverdance is such a hard dance to do, nevermind transferring it onto the the ice! This couple diserved to win!
