Eoghan Rua O'Neill (in English "Owen Roe O'Neill") was a 17th Century Irish Soldier in the ancient province of Ulster, who led an uprising against the English (see Wikipedia for the rest!). This short tune by Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738) would have been played on the Irish harp or Uillean pipes. The arrangement is by the great John Renbourn. I've included some of my holiday pics from Ireland, to hopefully complement the music.

  • Another beauty Jim. This is gorgeous, so sad. Your neighbours are lucky to get to hear this for free! Brill - you make it look effortless; I know it isn't!

  • @0ldfinger Hey Martin, not sure it's fair to subject anybody to the many hours of irritating practice that goes along with this - I remember having a few lessons once from a guitar teacher whose wife insisted that we could only play an electric guitar which was fed to headphones so that she didn't have to suffer for our art :o) Cheers, bud.

  • Jim, i also have played this song for years. Your interpretation is such a class act. Bravo, my friend!

  • @amccann7 I'm really touched by your lovely comments on my performances,Amy ! With material and arrangements of this quality, I've got a good start, I'd have to admit. Speak with you soon, buddy :o)

  • Very nice Jim. I like both your performance, music and pics. Ireland is certainly a very pretty Country, It is in my trip plans.

Ireland is a land with a lot of open spaces, as you can see :o) I've just finished digitising a lot of older holiday pictures, so more to follow on future videos, hopefully. Cheers for now, Jim
