'Cheeky' playing with, and talking to the biscuit (cookie) tin lid.
Cheeky is a male Cockatiel, approximately 5 years old. He does speak, as you can hear, however, he no longer learns anything 'new'

  • haha the heck with cookies GIMME MY REFLECTION!!!! lol im going to get mine in December. ANY TIPS OR POINTERS? PLEASE? SHOULD I GET A MIRROR FOR MINE? IT WILL BE MALE.

  • Hi

They used to say that if you want your bird to talk you shouldn't put a mirror in in the cage.I suppose that this is still true. Cheeky has never had a mirror in his cage. Males are supposed to be the best talkers. Spend as much time with your bird as possible and you will be well rewarded.

  • does cheeky have a female friend?

  • Yes, the hen bird is called 'Puff' but unfortunately the are not on speaking terms with each other.

Therefore I still have to keep the in separate cages.

    Al

  • i'm thinking about purchasing a cockatiel. what age do you think is a good age for purchase? and is it hard to tame these birds? i know that the birds at petsmart and petco are "hand-fed" but they seem a little jumpy when i tried to touch them.

  • Hi

I would say, as young as possible.

Taming the bird is not an 'instant thing'.

You have to gain the bird's confidence, and get used to each other.

Initially,Can take a bit of time, also, the bird has to adapt to it's new surroundings.

Cockatiels are very sociable birds, and like company.

They don't like being left on their own for too long!

Can be very rewarding, however, once you have obtained that 'bond'

  • lol I've got one just like him. Except, as soon as you take the focus off him, he screams my name until I come back over to him.

  • lol he looks like my cockatiel named Biscuit.

  • such a pretty bird ^-^ reminds me of my bird, Sarah, bless her heart that brave bird

  • Aww, Cheeky is so beautiful and adorable

  • WOW lol he seems to love making a mess. or maybe in the birds mind they think they are cleaning up.

    SO CUTE!

  • I recommend them yes.

They make great pets and are the best animals to cheer someone up on a bad day =]

you have to spend around $80 to get everything to get your bird happy and clean from mites.

Believe me they make great pets and i recommend them to any child.

  • Algy10 is right, you should definitely not add a mirror to their cage if you want them to talk. Mine would talk all day until I finally decided to purchase a mirror and he just got lazy and too involved with his mirror "friend" that he forgot to whistle most of the tunes and words he already knew. Even the neighbors thought he had died because he got so quiet.

  • omg he is so curious!!!!!!

  • So cute!

    I love Birds!
