Hæ! Ég tel frá einum til tuttugu á íslensku. Please feel free to comment and correct anything to improve my pronunciation. (: I've never taken a course, just a bit of self-study.

Ah! I messed up saying the name of the language in Icelandic. I meant to say "íslenska" but instead said "íslensku" which is the accusative case of the noun...

The symbols within the square brackets [ ] is the pronunciation as indicated by the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). It's a standarized system of phonetic notation that linguists use, associating one sound with one graph (letter). Once you know the IPA, you should be able to pronounce any sound in any language!

I'd be happy to explain any of the symbols. Information is also available on the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipa

  • Pretty good. It's mostly 'einn' that is a bit off. Maybe it's better to have an icelandic person do this video then a person learning icelandic since a lot of people are going to practice from this video.

  • @Steinninn yea, 'einn' has always given me trouble. According to books it has a devoiced n (like you mouth an n, but only let air out the nose) with sort of a t or a glottal stop (like a catch in the throat) before it. Anyway, I think it is very hard for foreigners, do you have any better way to describe how to pronounce it better?

  • wait ertu ekki íslendingur ?

  • @frikki500 nei (: ég er ekki íslendingur.

  • But I'm not so interested in Icelandic and scandinavian languages because I'll not find people out there to practice. Instead of it, I'll choose korean

  • That may be true.. but you live in Belgium, right? so you'd be the closest to them without actually being in Scandinavia!

Anyway, what are you using to study Korean? I'm planning to upload Korean numbers soon, and a couple of lessons videos too. (:

  • well..... that was very nice job (finaly is someone speaking that language) :):):):):):)

  • @pldilley I take it back, the Dutch video's numbers sound like English numbers. Clearly English has been doing a lot of borrowing

  • Wow most of those numbers sound a bit like English numbers.

  • @adrpatbollar5553 I suspect he knows IPA very well and is demonstrating that, but if he knows all of them to any level that's impressive. If this pronunciation is mainly based on the IPA I'd be impressed too.

  • where are you from?? dou you speak all the languages of your videos or just the numbers from one until twenty?

  • hmm pronounciation isn't so hard as I firstly thought :0 and after about a couple of minutes of practising saying them I can pronounce them almost like native speaker xD
