Everyone, this is the CORRECT way to steal from a Kecleon:
You already know that you just use a trawl orb at the stairway. BUT, the first thing you do is sell your stuff to Kecleon. You'll be basically stealing his items AND money.

This is what you need to look out for when you use Trawl Orbs. I had just entered the next floor, used it. Turns out, the Kecleon shop was in the VERY NEXT room.
