Tzaar Halaila in a very rare promo version - this is my alltime favourite song by Esther Ofarim!

For the video I have mixed and manipulated parts of the "Esther in Israel" Show of 1972.

  • very impressive song, have you translation into English, please?

  • no, only German. Perhaps Eyatn could translate!?

  • Vielen Dank!

  • please see the link in the description on the right site, there are the Hebrew lyrics and the German translation!

  • Ken, hi bemet tov! Ani gan hovev Esther!

  • And the wave crushes the bellies of ripples And the water punctures the horror of the abyss And the fields sheaves stand erect And the windpipes sing in choir Return my soul to your rest For God delivered thee from danger The way is so very long And there is a moon like flattened lead And there is above it a whiter light than milk And washing like deep salvation (end)
  • And whisper there stars and fortunes

And the night falls unto the sea of nights

And the light dances like gazelle feet

And drips like spring water out a wall

  • Here are the lyrics of this song in English. The translation is amateur, but hopefully is not too bad: Sorrow of the Night The way is so very long And there is a moon like flattened lead And there is no one to tell gold from lead Equaling a worn out penny And in the sky sail steaming clouds And answer them roofs and towers And rises before them the wailing of foxes Whose backs shiver in the hedgegrow (continues in next comment...)
  • Impressive vocals. Very few singers can sing discordant harmonies well. In my opinion, Alice Babs was the best at it.
