Hurricane Georges crossed the entire length of Puerto Rico on September 21, 1998. As the storm made landfall over the southeastern part of the island, I was able to intercept the northern eyewall in the town of Luquillo (the same location where I intercepted Hurricane Hugo nine years earlier). Although Georges had weakened significantly as it approached the Northeast Caribbean, the hurricane began to strengthen rapidly just before landfall in Puerto Rico. Georges was a Category Three with maximum sustained winds of 115mph and gusts between 130-140mph at landfall in Puerto Rico. Winds of 110mph with a peak gust of 130mph was recorded in Fajardo, very close to my location. The minimum central pressure at landfall in Puerto Rico was 968mb (28.59in).

  • WHAT IS 2904?

  • @nannystarr 2904 is the barometric pressure you hear me announce from time to time the lower the stronger the storm. The lowest in the calm part of the eye was 28.40 when the storm made landfall.

  • Also I would like to know why the quality of the video gets better at 1:15.Anyone know?

  • @MsBest450 , I was using 2 camcorders the one in the car is better quality because it was digital camera the other was Hi-8. I had a VX-1000 so the batteries were not lasting as long as they do nowadays and with no charger with me I had to use both.

  • this hurricane the year is 1997.

  • @toto2e No Way it was 1998.

  • @TheDreamer138 They get windstorms. They're as strong as hurricanes and tend tend to be bigger.

  • @danw1374 Europe have no hurricane.

  • @TheDreamer138 Im not sure i would tbh it would be devastating, although we never get ones as strong as those that hit the united states we are horribly prepared for storms as 1987 proved, but theres always a possibility one on this scale could happen in the future

  • This happen on my brithday :)

  • I wish to get this in the UK!

  • alguien me explique.algo sobre la presion barometrica de los huracanes...siempre escucho que los huracanes y tormentas tienen una presion expresada en milibares....

  • @toto2e 1998 we remember!!! never forget!

  • i remenber this hurricane i was in Dominican republic an that time i was like 6 years old

  • I passed that hurricane while living at home at the south coast. I was 12 by then. At first, I was excited because I wanted to to witness such an event. But when the storm hit the island, and the eye passed over my town, I was more than scared. The sound of the wind hitting the windows was horrible, even though it was a strong structure, I thought they were going to get blown inside the house.
