This video shows some progress on Terren's seax that he's making from a railroad spike, which is the first blade that he's made from the ground up. More videos will follow as more progress is made on the piece. All updates will be available on our website.

Again, we apologize for the video quality. Our camera didn't work very well in the low lighting conditions, plus my camera work was a bit shaky. Don't let that ruin the experience for you:) Future videos will improve.

Music is "Jotunheimsfærden" by Svartsot, available on iTunes.

  • No, we're not offended! It's quite a privilege!

I'm looking forward to seeing how progress on the blade goes. I'm a blacksmith by trade :)

    Cris//Svartsot.

  • @SvartsotDK Thanks for following us! We're really thrilled to be contacted by the members of one of our favorite bands. And Cris, I had no idea you were a blacksmith! Maybe that's why your music is so good to forge to.

  • Interesting footage - and not bad for a first attempt! Watch out with the folds in the tang, and the hard nick where the tang goes over to the blade, as these can be serious weaknesses. But keep it up!

  • @SvartsotDK Thanks for your input! We're still learning, but we're pretty happy with where our path is going. I'm glad you liked the video. It did feature your excellent music after all! Are you offended that we used it without your permission? If so, we will certainly change it for you.

By the way, we're a big fan of Ravnenes Saga and we're going to check out Mulmets Viser soon. YOU keep it up! :)

  • Do you pick spikes because of the steel grade or just because it's more easily available?

I've made knives with "kits" but wan to have a "bash" pardon the expression from scratch.

Not raw Iron ore scratch just basic steel scratch.

Also I notice the forge is a converted gas BBQ what do you do to convert it?

Great vid by the way and very glad to see someone doing this.

  • Forklift tyne Anvil Cont..and welded that to the 2 smaller pieces and welded 4 X 2inX2in angles with 1/2in holes so I could bolt it down onto a piece of log about 2 feet high as a base. The height at the top of the anvil is up to you what feels comfortable for you. NO More bouncing Anvil Nice and steady. A Lot Cheaper than some anvils you can buy and it will Work Great.

  • Just a little something that might help. Google fork lift sales repairs in your local area make some calls and see if they are willing to sell you a fork lift Tyne YOU know the fork of a forklift truck. They make Great anvils I have been using mine for about a year now IT WORKS GREAT. I cut it just about 2inches above the bend and about 20inches along the flat then I cut the vertical part in 2 cut off the clamp slides and turned the long piece upside down..Cont.

  • love the music
