  • I recommend against lampworking glass from bottles, mostly because glass rods are easier to hold than shards) and the glasses are probably incompatible. This means that, if used together, they would contract at different rates while cooling, and probably crack or break.

  • Bead annealing means soaking the bead in heat to gradually escort it (over a period of several hours) from the working temperature of the torch down to ambient room temperature. Annealing allows the glass to release internal stress, and this makes the beads more structurally stable in the long run. Putting beads into a fiber blanket does not anneal them, it only slows their cooling down to decrease the immediate likelihood that they'll break.

  • Hey Jeanine. I just got into glass blowing recently. I can tell you know what you're doing and you have researched thoroughly. I just subscribed, thanks.

  • I find it very helpful that you hold the bead close to the camera, so that we can see what you've done. Most tutorials don't do that, and it's very frustrating. This is a very good and very helpful tutorial.

  • Great video....

I have a Fireworks lampworking kit I received as a gift....I have not used it yet. I was wondering if I could make beads from bottled glass (wine bottle, beer bottle, etc) using the Hothead type torch. Also can you explain bead annealing I heard that putting a bead in fiber blanket is not annealing and that if the bead is more than a half inch it will break.
