In 1984 Frankie sang The national Anthem at the first Game of the World Series held in San Diego, his home town.

  • God bless you, Frankie. One of the greatest voices ever in American music history. He was 70 or 71 years of age when he sang this.

Today, we would have people like Rosanne Arnold tearing this song to pieces and grabbing her crotch, and a great many people not even raising an eyebrow! How far down the rungs of the ladder we have slipped, in my opinion.

  • Yes,the times are changing, but I'm afraid not for the better. Give me the fifties anyday.

  • That looked like Veteran's Stadium in Philly. And I saw Jerry and Betty Ford.

  • No that was the stadium in San Diego which was by then his home town that is why he sung

    the anthum there.

  • Neat!

It's a difficult song to sing and it's probably really difficult to sing it in a stadium. I'll bet Frankie Laine could've done a great job on the song in a recording studio or concert hall.

(BTW--Are you sure this was the first game of the WS? The way Vin Scully warns about the danger of San Deiego going down 2 games to 0, I'd have thought it's Game 2.)

  • Yes You are right, it must have been the 2d game. My memory isn't what it used to be I remembered it as the first.

  • pah! 4 U home of the brave, vespuccians ..

  • Of all the renditions of our National Anthem, I think Frankie Laine's is the best of the best.

  • Thanks to you and Frankie for an inspiring rendition of our national anthem. What a great singer he was, my buddies and I used to try to imitate him in the late 40's. (we didn't come close though)
