My Dad and I finished installing most of the Atlas under-table switch machines. Here we're testing them with a few different engines pulling and pushing a train through them, looking for hick-ups. For the most part everything went smoothly. Minor adjustments.

  • Hmmm....Looks like :06 and :09 there's a little bit of jump.....I've noticed on my own layout that only seems to happen when pushing cars, and not pulling them....I've tried adding a little extra weight to the cars that like to jump....but then I have to make sure there aren't any lighter cars between them and the engine....what kind of turnouts do you use, and how do you adjust them if they don't work quite right? The points appear to line up, so it's driving me insane!

  • I use Atlas code 83 #6 turnouts. The wheels on the green boxcar are the olf plastic wheels provided with the kit. I have not change them to the metal ones yet. I think it's the deeper flanges riding up on the frogs that make the cars rock-n-roll like that. I have yet to see a car with metal wheels do that through a turnout.
