THE EASIEST WAY IS TO DAMPEN AND HANG A LARGE SOFT COTTON BATH TOWEL UP since it has a large surface area to put some moisture/humidity into the air, but you will have to re-dampen it when needed and that only takes a minute or two.

Some basic ways to make a homemade humidifier for dry areas/climate (such as when it is very dry in the winter seaon in the northern hemisphere of earth). I did a quick test for several hours and it seems that with the cloth wick, that several (I measured 10 here) times more water/moisture is evaporated into the air....so it would be equivalent to many identical bowls or containers.

I found this very old one from 1918 after I made mine:

It's not difficult to image the humidfier concept going way back several thousands of years though.

Another humidifier option is to get a fountain(s). The more suface area of water the better, some even make soothing sounds. You can also get an electric humidifier.

Important:

1. You don't want the humidity levels too high in your house. Perhaps 50% only. Use A Humidity Meter. To much humidity can make breathing difficult, and it will promote the growth of micro-organisms such as bacteria and fungus. So your humidifier has to be cleaned regularly, perhaps daily to every two or three days. With this homemade system, probably best to clean the cloth with vinegar, bleach or water and set it aside or wash in the laundry, and use a clean dry cloth in your humidifier.

2. Clean Your Humidifier (And Cloth). Typical cleaners are hydrogen peroxide or some bleach.
