This clip is a tribute to the efforts of Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra(SNM), a NGO which started their Marine Turtle Conservation Project in 2002. Since then SNM have successfully released over 10,000 hatchlings.
Olive ridley turtles nest on virgin beaches all across the coast of Maharashtra. SNM ensures the safety of these nests and safe hatching and subsequent release of the hatchlings into the wilderness. They spread awareness amongst the adjoining villages and involve the local people in their conservation movement.
These shots were taken on 10th - 11th Feb 2007 at one such beach adjoinig Velas village (17o57'33.90" N 73o02'06.29" E)Taluka Mandangad, District Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, India. This beach of Velas (17o57'25.51" N 73o02'52.86" E) has regular nesting of Olive ridley turtles and SNM ensures their safety.

Get in touch with SNM and find out if there are any more nestings that will hatch next week/ month. If not, you can get to see it next year.
