The badger, rare on the coast and a California species of special concern, appears to be hunting gophers, its staple food for this area. This video was shot by PRBO biologist Ryan Digaudio on 7/11/11 while he was conducting plant surveys as part of a grassland bird monitoring project at the Jenner Headlands in Sonoma County. One of our grassland focal species, a Grasshopper Sparrow, can be heard singing in the background.
