You can also use a skipping rope handle that has a bearing already in it, for anyone who can't find that flashlight

"Ampro T23921 8-LED Flashlight with Laser Pointer"
that's the flashlight he's using. I spent like an hour trying to find a decent aluminum one on Amazon and I just happened to stumble upon this. For some reason YouTube wouldn't allow me to post a link, so I just copied the exact listing name off Amazon's site. Enjoy ;)

Great Design!! The only question I have is what does the internal sleeve do? is it to prevent the head of the flashlight to be screwed down completely and creating resistance against the bearing?

Fantsatic DIY engineering from household parts! I just wish there where more stedicam rigs on the market so it would force merlin to bring their prices down :/

I see the 'set screw' you put in the custom made brass collar holds the bearing assembly to the brass "control cap" you made, but how do you get the set screw tight? It seems to me the flashlight cap is in the way of getting a screw in there.
Am I missing something?
Hello!
The flashlight does not have any identifying marks on it so I don't know who made it. I didn't save the packaging so I am not able to answer your question. Sorry.

When you screw the bottom of the flashlight into the head assembly the bottom of the flashlight presses against the sleeve and the sleeve presses against the bearing, holding the bearing firmly in place. Without the sleeve the bearing would flop around... If your particular flashlight can screw far enough into the head to the point where the bottom of the flashlight makes contact with the bearing then you won't need the sleeve. - Thanks for the question!

I had to grind down an allen wrench so it would fit into the confined area. I loosly installed the set screw into the collar, pushed the collar over the shaft, then used the ground down allen wrench to tighten the screw.
