PBS' Great Performances series presents Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story, premiering Aug. 1 at 9 p.m. (ET). Narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, the film tells the story behind the legendary label that launched such soul music greats as Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, the Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes, Eddie Floyd, Carla and Rufus Thomas, Albert King and Booker T. and the MGs. The show reunites producer-directors Robert Gordon and Morgan Neville, whose American Masters documentary Muddy Waters: Can't Be Satisfied was a Grammy nominee. Check your local listings for air dates in your area and remember, soul begins with Stax!

Atlantic---and Jerry Wexler-- raped and pillaged Mr. Stewart and the STAX label then discarded the carcass and STOLE the catalogue. One of the biggest robberies in history.

Ever watched Spies Like Us with Chevy Chase & Blues Brother Dan Aykroyd? It's "Soul Finger" by The Barkays. The original group except for the great bassist James Alexander (who wasn't on the plane), and the only survivor (trumpeter Ben Cauley) died w/ the KING of SOUL Otis Redding.
