The unspoilt Otago Peninsular near Dunedin on the South Island of New Zealand has many walk trails and opportunities to see fantastic wildlife.
The endangered yellow-eyed penguins nest in several locations on the peninsular - normally in burrows behind the dunes amongst cabbage trees, tussock grass and flax. They can be seen crossing beaches to and from the ocean at dusk and dawn although when nesting will return their nests and burrows earlier in the afternoon.
