Eternal Darkness - Unsettling Scene

This is one of the best games for the Gamecube, in my opinion. With the introduction of the innovative sanity meter, as you lose sanity, crazy things start to happen to you (for example your perspective becomes extremely tilted and you hallucinate everything from exploding heads to the windows blue screen of death.

Imagine: You're in your grandfather's mansion. He's just been found dead, his head missing. Not just cut off, but missing. You're looking for clues. You've just found an ancient book which tells terrible tales from the past and has given you hideous magic powers. You venture upstairs, totally creeped out, and in the bathroom the bathtub catches your eye. You go over to investigate...

@nightassassin480 You know, the problem is that for whatever reason this game outputs its video extremely dark, and when you capture it it ends up even darker. The only option is to crank the contrast, and then everything looks grey and washed out. So I left it as is.

It's scary because you shouldn't be expecting it when it happens. It's a cheap scare, admittedly, but masterfully done and well-placed in relation to the rest of the game at that point. If you hadn't spoiled it for yourself ahead of time, the effect would've been much greater.

This video just doesn't do it justice because you know it's coming. When I was playing, it was just my usual gaming OCD taking over, having to check everything, and it caught me completely off guard.

Fucking scared the shit out of me when I played this. I tried to show it to my friends later on, but I guess I accidentally loaded a previous save.

Good game, but that civil-war era segment just killed the pacing for me.

The funny thing about this was that seeing the suggestion window cover the video which had Eileen's head on it scared me more than what happened.

Yeah, the execution is what makes the effect so great. It happens so fast we barely register what happened and filled in the blanks.

I knew something was coming, so that nerfed the scaryness a bit.
