  • Are the 4 black foam squares provided in the box or must we buy them separately? That part of the video is slightly cut off so I would like to make sure. Thank-you.

  • @buddhasknowbest

Yes these are included; please see the first link in the video details section directly under the YouTube Video. This link has a click to enlarge diagram that shows in very good detail the flow and other internal details of the Filstar.

  • Will the filter be okay if its no 24" below the tank? I dont have a stand for my tank (its on the ground) will this filter work okay if its positioned on the floor next to the tank?

  • @llwayneio

This depends upon which Filstar you use or any canister filter for that matter. Any canister Filter loses head pressure for every inch of lift, so the lower from the water surface the slower the filter. If you have a larger Filstar (such as the Filstar #4) your head pressure will be higher & would likely still work well, although flow will still be reduced.

Please read the details section of this video & follow the links for much more in depth information about aquarium filtration

  • I wouldn't wash ANY filter medium under running CHLORINATED Tap Water as this will kill all the vital bacteria. (Bacteria live on the foam filter medium as well as on the ceramic rings/bio-balls/bio"stars") Instead of tipping the water from the canister down the plug hole, pour it into a bucket and then use this water to clean the sponges (by rubbing and squeezing them gently.) And when settled, use the water to water your house-plants as this is full of nitrate (a plant fertilizer).

  • @Kivstev All you have to do is use non scented petroleum jelly and they will slide on easily and is harmless for your fish.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video.

I got my xp3 second hand so had no instructions, I

  • Try dipping it in some hot water. That even works for pluming around the house!

  • @Kivstev i have sused it soak the end of the tube in boiling water for a few minites and it slips on perfect

  • This is a fab video. The written instructions tell you to push the hoses on the canister 2 inches! This is not humanly possible! I have the strength of 6 teenage girls and can only get the hose on 1.62 inches! The video corrects this impossibility.
