New Orleans Charter Science & Math High School -- A new outdoor activity area for physical education and classroom activities was rebuilt. Completion: September 2007.

About the Organization:
The New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School (Sci High), an open admissions public charter high school, offers a rigorous, lab-based education in science, math, and technology that prepares students to major in those programs at the college level.

Sci High has a student enrollment of nearly 400 students who come from all parts of New Orleans. Its student population is 86% African-American and 57% female.

Project Description and Status:

The school's outside sports and recreation area was completely insufficient to meet the needs of a quality P.E. program. With funding from Operation Kids, drainage was improved, the courtyard repaved and relined, and new athletic equipment installed. In addition, a much-needed outdoor lab area for science classes was restored.

  • And by "knuckle draggers" you are referring to what?

  • No I was just surprised that the knuckle dragger's rate was so low

  • I think they are just explaining that those are the majority populations at that particular school...it does sound dumb at first though unless you really think about it.

  • "Its student population is 86% African-American and 57% female."

    Lol wut?
