This is what a hen does after she lays an egg -- she sings this little song to tell the world!

BTW Penelope and her 7 coop mates range freely through an acre of pasture that they share with three goats -- weather permitting.

Very pretty hen. Only one of my five hens are laying. (My small bantam is the only laying eggs 1/3 the size of a regular store egg) So I'm keeping my ears open for the egg song.

Thanks. My Barred Rocks just started laying and their pullet eggs are really small. One was like a quail's egg -- but when I cracked it, it was a double yolker!

@frosthazard00 What I mean is they are not stupid, in fact I dont think there is a living thing that is stupid, well not counting us humes anyway. They know when your about to grab one of their lovely eggs its quite obvious really when you have kept hens for 20 years.

I keep hens and I know for a fact its just warning you off the nest sorry to say. Can anyone here imagine the noise a chicken makes when laying? Well it goesa bit like this: Buuuuuuuuu buuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaak, this continues on for about 3-4 minutes. Peace and love :)
