I feel sorry for libertarians who have to live in a finite world. Libertarian philosophy only works on an infinitely expanding frontier. Not when real resource limits begin to kick in.

The free market does not know how much oil is left, because nobody who participates in the free market knows. The free market only knows how much oil is getting extracted right now. The current price discounts the future depletion of oil to zero, sending no signal to get off oil before it's too late.

Her point is that there is no "free market" for oil because of the OPEC cartel, which controls supply and therefore to a great extent prices. Your comment indicates you missed that. Whether you did or didn't miss the point about the oil "free market", she is calling for a government mandate that will require an open fuel standard (mandatory flex fuel capacity on all vehicles sold in the US). You should judge her presentation on the merits of that idea.

OPEC is the main reason for oil prices, not the only reason..they are the source. every other type of fluctuation becomes irrelevant if OPEC decides to restrict/increase the flow of oil in the world..they are at the core of influencing oil prices..everything else has an influence, yet, in the end, it's OPEC that has the final say

The kind of argument that prevails these days is a kind of linear simplistic one. Yes, OPEC has a gating function on the price of oil, they can raise prices unilaterally, but that is not all, nor the only gating factor - or the final say as you put it. It does not explain why prices were double what they are today a year ago when supply has been relatively constant. The market manipulations occur downstream from production. I mentioned refining, tankers and hoarding is a factor too.

Her idea is about as short term as we can get ... and it is a shot to medium term response, electrification is the long term strategy - nuclear, solar, wind, coal, etc.

As she emphasized at the very beginning of the talk, just 2% of our electricity currently comes from oil. So changing our electrical generation mix, while it may have other merits (reduce air pollution), is almost completely irrelevant to the strategic question of oil dependence.
