Paseo de la Reforma, one of the most outstanding avenues in Mexico City, dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, when it was laid out as "The Emporer's Avenue." Today it is home to innumerable monuments to important people and moments in Mexico's history, including El Angel de la Indepencia, commemorating the centennial Mexico's independence and the Monument to the Revolution, which houses the remains of several revolutionary heroes, including Francisco I. Madero.
