Swing music by Jimmy Dorsey from the album Contrasts.
Th vocals come in later, in the tradition of the time. First the band would introduce themselves through their instuments and then the singer would be introduced.
The pictures were made in Chicago in and around Union Station. Present day unfortunetly.
When I build that time machine that is sitting in the basement I will definetly take pictures from that era. Until that time... alas!
Hope you enjoy and tell me what you think.

  • THAT is when MUSIC was really MUSIC not this screaming we have pushed onus today..

  • thanks for uploading this.

the black and white pictures are lovely too

  • With June Richmond singing! Everyone gives Artie Shaw credit for having Billie Holiday, but right around the same time, JD had a much lesser known African American singer, June. And unlike Billie, she did more than one song with him.

  • yano she just clarified for me that both member's of the couple take off there shoes, most people gave me the impression that only the singer's shoes would be coming off to the jelly roll blues.

  • People who assume that 'modern' groups like Brian Setzer and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy are more uptempo than real-era swing, have never heard stuff like this!
