To asnwer your question : what is the function of snot? Snot has a quite important function, it made sticky so all dust paticles and sand and such things that do not belong in your lungs stay in the nose, instead of in your lungs.
When you have a cold your mucous membrane( where your snot is produced) get infected and starts to swell and it starts to produce way too much snot.

I have no idea.
My cousin gave me some antihistamines day before yesterday, they helped a lot.
Like I said, I have a Vicks inhaler that I use near constantly for my blocked nose, but I don't have a cold...

I used to work in the airport as a security officer, and I took up to 2500 mg of vitamin C everyday. (chewable) you can take up to 15000 mg with no bad side effects- but at around 20000 mg you might get the runs. Still, no long-term side-effects are known.
Airports are the best places to pick up viruses. But now you know.
All your snot comes from the stomach as it lines the inside of your stomach to not let stomach acid burn the skin lining of your stomach. Science in a shell!
Awesome video, bad luck woth the cold, have one myself, my throat is killing me. Hope all gets better man : )
