This ia a video documenting the recent show at the Art Annex during the Downtown los angeles Art Walk, August 13th, 2009. In it are displayed 3 new Treiops Treyfid mixed and multi-media sculptures. See below for Statement and Biography.

Treiops Treyfid Artist Statement

Treiops Treyfid's conceptually-based work is defined by relationships between humans, materials and hence, our environment and the ways in which we live. A majority of his current work involves sculpture, installation, mixed media series, and more recently new media performances. Treyfid's body of work dating from the early '90s to now, can best be described as multi-media in the sense that he incorporates all forms from painting to sound in his work.

His use of specifically selected materials, which themselves carry relevant and easily accessible meanings, creates social parodies or farces in beautiful, unmistakable ways. Ranging from bulk man-made materials, such as Styrofoam, plastic bags, cardboard and Plexi-glass, to leather, holograms, and polyester resin, Treyfid crosses the line between the hand-made and the eco-friendly "green" by blatantly using an excess of these items.

Treyfid builds environs that convey stories of societal norms or abnormalities, economic and political downturns and upswings, mans relationships to each other, to nature, animals, consumerism and in general, human absurdity. Contemporary issues that form his work include global warming, deforestation, scavenger animals, glamour, and identity loss.

As a rule, Treyfid's dedication to his craft makes great care obvious, while imparting a sense of irony that does not sacrifice global messages. The means of execution that form his experience and his work are varied while at once inclusive, broad while at once focused.

Biography

Treiops Treyfid was born and raised in the Chicago area. Treyfid attended The Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC. During his time in the nation's capital, he developed as an experimental musician under the name Triptic of a Pastel Fern. Later he collaborated with Justin Chearno and others on an art/punk band Pitchblende which toured extensively. He has spent many years releasing albums and touring nationally and internationally.

Upon his arrival to California in 1999, Treyfid began to accelerate his visual art pursuits. Treyfid is currently an active participant in the Downtown Los Angeles art scene where he has a studio at the Crescent Creamery. He has shown extensively in Los Angeles as well as Washington DC.

He recently began writing for a new Los Angeles art blog and supports many environmental and socially conscious national organizations. His work has been profiled in several local publications. Treyfid has some new media performances in store for 2010.
