  • hi davie, where would i get olive mallard wings? Thanks Pol

  • Hi paulkane11,

I dyed the wings myself with a Veniard yellow dye....All the best Davie

  • hi davie, Im 13 and i live up in the north west highlands of scotland and the black spider is one of the well known flys up here and caught alot of wild brown trout with it. Could you please do a vid on it.

  • Hi MrBoos1231,

I'll see what I can do for you....All the best Davie..

  • Hi Davie, Great fly. I find B170s and B100s bend too easily but flies tied using these lighter hooks tend to produce more takes than the same pattern tied on B175s and B110s ( i'm assuming it's because the heavier hooks sometimes sink too fast?). Can you recommend an alternative light hook that does not bend so easily?

  • Hi dthomson81,

The B100 are too light and do bend very easily the hook that I use in it's place is the Super Grub by Fulling Mill as strong as the B110 but lighter in weight and wire for the B170 I find does start to bend after a few fish but I just replace it with a new fly..I'm sorry I can't be of any more help as these are the most popular hooks and easiest to find but I would like to see another company or two come in and give us another choice..

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Alan,

I wouldn't use a pure yellow hackle, I would just use the natural grey covert feather from the mallard which I do and it works really well..ATB Davie

  • Hi Davie, nice simple fly, could you use any other yellow feather if you haven't got yellow mallard or would it alter the fly too much. Regards Alan

  • got yourself a real talent there! bravo, just started tying my own flies a month or so ago and I gatta say i can watch all your videos 10 times over!

  • Hi Davie

I havent been on you tube in a while but I was really excited to see all the new videos you have put up.. Cant wait to watch them all..

This fly had a few great tips on it..

    1. The tag end of the thread using it for the rid has a great look to it.. Will diff have to remember it...

    2. The covert feather taking away the other side of the feather how it helps to get the fibers to stand up better...

    Thanks for The Great Video

    Chance
